Editor’s note: As of Friday, shortly before 4 p.m., Hurricane Beryl has downgraded to a tropical storm.

HARLINGEN, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — County judges for Cameron and Willacy counties have issued a voluntary evacuation to RV residents and guests in preparation for Tropical Storm Beryl.

    Cameron County

Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino Jr. is alerting guests staying at all county parks to take precautionary measures ahead of the Tropical Storm Beryl.

Beryl set the record as the earliest category five hurricane earlier this week, developing along the Carribbean Sea, continuously moving west toward northern Mexico and South Texas.

Since its development, Beryl has slowly downgraded and was announced as a tropical storm Friday afternoon.

RV guests staying at the following Cameron County parks are encouraged to take safety measures.

    • Isla Blanca Park
    • Andy Bowie Park
    • Adolph Thomae Jr. Park

Judge Trevino is asking RV residents to secure loose items to avoid potential high winds causing damage to nearby properties.

“We are not requiring guests to evacuate, but want to make sure all precautionary measures are taken in case the storms current track remains accurate,” Trevino said.

    Willacy County

Willacy County Judge Aurelio Guerra Jr. has ordered a voluntary evacuation for RVs and other high-profile vehicles staying at Port Mansfield.

Campers at Port Mansfield are encouraged to secure loose items around their campsites such as chairs, umbrella, tables, carpets and canopies.

Residents are also encouraged to prepare with a hurricane emergency kit with essential items including a backup generator, flashlights and perishable food items.

Judge Guerra says the evacuation is not required, but urges residents to remain safe during the tropical storm.
