CONNELLY SPRINGS, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A motorcyclist was killed this week in an eastern Burke County collision, state troopers say.

According to the N.C. State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred just after 6 p.m. July 1 on N.C. 18 near Miller Bridge Road. That‘s where a Honda motorcycle was traveling north on Hwy. 18, crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2019 Chevrolet Express van.

Catawba County parents charged with murder of child who was found dead from fentanyl

The motorcycle also caught on fire, and its driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the van, a Vale man, was not injured.

Troopers say excessive speed was the contributing factor in the collision. During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately three hours.

No charges will be filed in this case.
