Tonight features partly cloudy skies and the risk for a brief isolated shower, though most of us will be dry. It’s a warm and soupy night ahead as the summertime humidity has returned with low temperatures only dropping into the upper 60s.

Independence Day is the day Mother Nature has decided to listen to our pleas for rain. A few clouds filter in for the morning, with only an isolated shot at a shower or two, but we look to stay relatively dry for morning parades and festivities. By midday, with temperatures warming into the mid 80s and plenty of humidity with an approaching front, scattered showers and storms will begin to fire up ahead of a cold front. Our cold front is expected to cross in the evening with scattered thunderstorms and heavy rain lasting into the overnight. The scattered nature of these storms suggests some towns may get their firework displays off without issue but others may not. About 1 inch of rain in a few places will go a long way to help with the on-going drought conditions.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed our region in a level one marginal risk for severe weather, with damaging wind gusts begin the primary threat for us to watch for. The Weather Prediction Center has placed our region in a level one marginal risk for flooding, with the potential there for very localized heavy rainfall. We’ll see storm activity quickly subside after dark with temperatures dropping into the upper 60s, with another humid night on the way.

Friday morning showers and a rumble or two continue to filter out from Thursday’s system but another system will push in for the afternoon, with damaging wind gusts possible in the strongest of storms. The Storm Prediction Center has once again placed our region in a level one risk for severe weather with the setup at play. Some dry time will help high temperatures nudge up into the mid to upper 80s with very humid air in place for that summer feel. Scattered showers and pop-up t-storms will be most likely in the afternoon and early evening. A few will escape the rain but it’ll be a good day to keep an eye to the sky for those with outdoor plans.

Saturday a few morning showers are a good bet as our Friday system continues to push out of the region. Highs take a small hit dropping back into the low to mid 80s but it’ll be muggy regardless. Afternoon rumbles likely in a scattered fashion again makes Saturday a good day to keep an ear out for thunder. Some storms could produce locally heavy rainfall once again.

How to protect your body from the heat this summer

Sunday is a little drier over Saturday with a mix of sun and clouds. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s but there will be a noticeable drop in the humidity once again. Overall, it’s a nice way to end the holiday weekend.

Monday sun and clouds and southwest winds keep temps moving up into the upper 80s by the evening. An afternoon shower here or there is expected thanks to the heating of the day and extra humidity as a little disturbance works through. Isolated showers remain possible into the overnight.

Tuesday we’ll manage to warm up into the 80s once again with a mix of sun and clouds. An afternoon downpour & rumble of thunder also possible with the summer pattern holding for another day.

July 4th travel expected to set record

Wednesday keeps the risk for an isolated storm or two in the afternoon with heat and a touch of humidity, but otherwise, it’s a dry summer-like day with partly sunny skies and highs in the mid 80s.
