TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Several local businesses must get rid of their THC products to avoid punishment by law.

On July 1, Vigo County prosecutor Terry Modesitt sent out a press release banning THC products. He says that the products have been causing problems in the community.

“If they are juveniles then they will go through the juvenile center, which would be handled in a more informal way,” Modesitt said. “I cannot necessarily say there was an uptick, but I can say I think there’s an uptick on the amount of cases as far as people driving under the influence and being involved in accidents.”

Local vape shops that WTWO reached out to declined to be on camera, but say that they have lost over half of their customers. Modesitt says the products might not be what they appear as after Indiana State Police lab testing.

“They found out that the amount of THC that they have on each product that it lists on there, those amounts were underestimated on a number of the products. They were a lot higher. Some of them were 10-15 times higher compared to the amount that it said they had on the product, on the packaging.”

The release ended by saying to remove all cannabinoid and smokeable hemp products from the shelves.
