(WHTM) — Wednesday’s hometown heroes are providing school supplies for thousands of Lancaster County students.

The United Way of Lancaster and community volunteers will give a backpack filled with school supplies, shoes and clothing. Students in the school district of Lancaster, Manheim Township, Hempfield and Penn Manor are eligible.

More than 2,000 kids are expected to benefit from this year’s event.

“It’s one place where families can go to get what they need right before school starts, that, you know, times are tough for a lot of people,” Vice President of Impact, United Way of Lancaster County Joel Janisewski said. “And this this is a place where people from the community have gathered to to pool resources to serve students from throughout our area.”
