    OSAGE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

First responders saved two children on Wednesday from floodwaters in Osage County.

Osage County Sheriff Mike Bonham said two children were rescued from water after a UTV went off County Road 423. Bonham said the youth were OK, but were taken to University Hospital as a precaution.

Two kayakers on Wednesday also had to be rescued from an island in the Gasconade River, Bonham said.

"If they don't have to be out there, we'd ask them if they didn't with the debris and the water as being that high,” Bonham said.

Osage County Emergency Management wrote on its social media that some county roads have “experienced damage and washouts.” The department wrote that crews are working to get roads cleared, but quarries in the area are closed for the next four days because the holiday, so available materials are limited.

“County Road 263 will be closed from the slab to Hwy HH.  County Road 211 is completely closed. There is more rain predicted tonight so the potential for more damage is possible. Continue to let the 911 center know of any damage through our non-emergency line, 573-897-0911. Please do not drive through rushing flood water. Thank you for your understanding,” the post reads.
