MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers was confirmed to be the only governor to not attend a meeting between Democratic governors and President Joe Biden amid continued questions of whether Biden will remain in the presidential race.
A spokesperson for Evers told News 3 Now Tuesday the governor did not plan to attend the Wednesday meeting.
"[Governor Evers] didn’t attend the meeting because he’s focused on moving forward and winning Wisconsin," a spokesperson for the governor's office posted to social media. "He supports President Biden - his comments in support of the president over the last week speak for themselves, and he looks forward to campaigning with the President on Friday."
Evers spoke Wednesday night at Concerts on the Square, an hour and a half after the Biden meeting was scheduled to start. Biden will host a campaign rally in Madison on Friday.
Initial reporting suggested that Evers and at least one other governor would not attend the Biden meeting, but a White House pool report confirmed Evers was the only governor not joining.
Reports from the meeting indicated Biden was committed to staying in the race. California Gavin Newsom in a statement to CBS News said that he "heard three words from the President — he's all in."
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Maryland and New York Govs. Wes Moore and Kathy Hochul said the discussions were honest about concerns the governors were hearing, but that the group all pledged their support to the incumbent president.
