The new Reds head coach will meet some of his new squad this week as players begin to make their way back to the AXA Training Centre for the start of the preseason. Supporters will be hoping they will see some new faces arriving alongside them soon.
There has been no shortage of names being linked with moves to Anfield , and Anthony Gordon’s failed discussions have shown there is work being done behind the scenes. For now, though, it remains to be seen who will be the first new arrival through the door.
Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today, including the annual Adrien Rabiot speculation, as well as an update on Leny Yoro.
Adrien Rabiot (Juventus)
Liverpool has already made moves to try and sign Adrien Rabiot this summer, according to Calciomercato . Not only that, but the Reds are said to be "ready to break the bank" to sign the French international.
Newcastle though is also said to be in the running, while AC Milan has supposedly made contact with the 29-year-old. Rabiot looks set to be without a club this summer, with his contract having expired at Juventus.
Liverpool.com says: The transfer window’s open, so of course we need to have Rabiot being linked to Liverpool. It just wouldn’t be the same without it.
As with every other time he’s been linked to Anfield, a move almost certainly won’t happen. At 29, he just isn’t the sort of player the Reds should be targeting, and they certainly shouldn’t be ‘breaking the bank’ for him, which is pretty hard to do for a player who’s moving for free.
Leny Yoro (Lille)
Liverpool has been in contact with Lille as the Reds refuse to give up on their pursuit of Leny Yoro, journalist Ben Jacobs has told GiveMeSport . The teenager looks to be waiting for a move to Real Madrid, with previous reports this summer indicating that Liverpool and other clubs are resigned to him moving to the Bernabeu.
The Reds though are said to be ‘serious’ about Yoro, and will not be waving the white flag any time soon. Madrid though remains his most likely destination.
Liverpool.com says: You can see why clubs are circling around Yoro. It’s not often a teenager establishes himself at center-back in one of Europe’s top leagues, so he certainly looks to be a generational talent.
At some point though, Liverpool may have to just admit defeat. They know only too well what generally happens when Real Madrid becomes involved, and it certainly looks as though Yoro is happy to wait for Los Blancos, even if it is next year.
