The women’s basketball community can’t wait for July 20, as it marks the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game that will feature rookie icons Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark.

Both women were top vote getters — at least according to the fan vote.

But an additional voting criteria is actually what ultimately earned Reese her All-Star spot.

Reese was selected for the game by the voting of WNBA head coaches, according to the league’s press release .

“The names of the next 36 highest vote-getters not already on the USA Women’s National Team … were then provided to the 12 WNBA head coaches, who voted to fill the remaining spots for the 12-player Team WNBA roster,” the release states.

"Coaches were not able to vote for their own players," the release adds.

The release then listed the eight players who were added to the team as a result of the coach vote.

And Angel Reese was among them.

This announcement adds fascinating context to Reese's selection.

And fans are loving how Reese was shown love by the league's head coaches.

What's for sure is that Reese has clearly earned a ton of respect from those who know women's basketball best.
