FAIR HILL — If you are among those in Cecil County wondering if the Fair Hill Races will ever return, you are not alone.

Cecil County Councilman Al Miller was also concerned and arranged for a way to find out why.

A meeting has been set up to get your questions answered July 16 at the Tea Room at the Fair Hill Fairgrounds. Maryland Department of Natural Resources officials will be answering questions. DNR Secretary Josh Kurtz will be among the featured speakers. The session begins at 10 a.m.

The Fair Hill Races had been held on Memorial Day weekend for decades, raising money for the Union Hospital Foundation and then the Cecil County Breeders Fair to name a few. The first races to be canceled were in 2020 when the global pandemic canceled pretty much everything. The Races were again canceled in 2021, when officials with the Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area said the sod needed more time to mature.

There have been several Maryland 5Star events at Fair Hill but nothing sanctioned for the Fair Hill Races. Cecil Whig coverage of the Fair Hill races numbered attendance in the thousands.
