Shane Mosley Jr: Press Conference Feuds Are ‘A Bit Foolish’

The buildup to Saturday’s boxing match between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz has been filled with drama. Shane Mosley Jr , who fights former middleweight champion Danny Jacobs in the evening’s co-main event, has had a front row seat to it all.

While Shane Mosley Jr. and Jacobs have remained respectful and complementary of one another to this point, the same cannot be said of the other dueling pairs that shared the stage. Beyond the well-publicized brawl that took place between the Masvidal and Diaz camps in a promotional event last month, fight week has put tensions between fellow undercard fighters Sean Garcia and Amado Vargas front and center.

The 33-year-old spoke to Ringside Intel moments after Wednesday’s pre-fight press conference concluded and shared his displeasure with the multiple feuds playing out around him.

“I think it’s a bit foolish. You know what I mean? Why would you handle a dispute on the dais? It doesn’t make sense. In my personal opinion, you handle yourself respectfully and then you handle what you have to do in the ring. That’s why we’re fighters. We’re not professional talkers. We’re professional fighters. So, you handle that when you fight.”

His father, 2000 Hall of Fame inductee “Sugar” Shane Mosley Sr, believes the difference is a matter of maturity. “I think that Danny Jacobs and my son are both grown up. They’re men, you know? Danny Jacobs, you can tell that he’s a grown man. And my son conducts himself that way too.”

Shane Mosley Jr ‘Prepared’ For Big Challenge

When Mosley Jr steps into the ring, the former WBO NABO middleweight champion will be walking in as a super middleweight. He feels that adjusting to the extra pounds, or facing an opponent of Jacobs’ stature is all about preparation. “We prepare for this…We let it play out,” he said.

The elder Mosley, who won titles in three different divisions, doesn’t see the move up as a huge obstacle and describes his son as “168 pounder anyway.” “He can actually fight at 168. That’s what they get wrong…he just wants to win the world title at 160 and be undisputed.,” he continued.

Shane Mosley Jr and Danny Jacobs will meet on Saturday July 6 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA.
