Despicable Me 4 has finally hit theaters and fans are asking if Gru’s twin-brother Dru returns in the movie and makes a cameo appearance. Dru was introduced in Despicable Me 3 and was apparently set up as a major character in the franchise. The curiosity among fans seems to have risen primarily due to Dru’s absence from the film’s marketing.
So, does Dru have a cameo in Despicable Me 4? Find out here.
Does Dru return in Despicable Me 4?
Yes, Dru returns in Despicable Me 4. However, he only appears toward the end of the movie.
In the film’s ending, Dru can be seen attending a family party following Gru’s successful defeat of Maxime Le Mal. Gru’s mother Marlena and Dr. Nefario also make appearances, attending the party.
Given the major role Dru played in Despicable Me 3 and the ending teasing the character becoming a major staple of the franchise moving forward, his absence for much of Despicable Me 4 comes as a bit of a shock. However, the absence isn’t entirely surprising. This is because in the film, Gru and his family are forced into hiding, after Maxime Le Mal swears vengeance. The situation is so dire that Gru and his immediate family are relocated by the Anti-Villain League to a new town with new identities. They also end up shutting off contact with Dru and Marlena, likely to protect them from Maxime’s wrath.
Additionally, the film introduces several new plotlines and character arcs that do not seem to get resolved. Thus, there likely was no space in the story to feature returning characters like Dru.
Whether Dru will return in a future Despicable Me or Minions installment remains unclear as of this writing.
Despicable Me 4 is currently playing in theaters. The film features the voices of Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Will Ferrell, Joey King, and Sofia Vergara, among other cast members.
