A man who shared an Airbnb with Jay Slater, the British teenager who disappeared in Tenerife, has finally spoken up about that night . The search for Jay has been ongoing for more than two weeks , and authorities called off the major search efforts in the challenging terrain of northwest Tenerife last Sunday.

Nineteen-year-old Jay from Lancashire was last seen after leaving an Airbnb in Masca village , where he had spent the night with two men after a clubbing night in southern Tenerife. He contacted his friend Lucy Law on the day he vanished, saying he was attempting the long trek back to the south, a journey that would take roughly 11 hours before his phone battery died.

One of the individuals who stayed with him at the Airbnb has now come forward , stating to MailOnline: "He came to my Airbnb alive and he left my Airbnb alive." It is believed that Ayub Qassim, aged 31, invited Jay to the holiday rental following a rave they attended together in the south of Tenerife. Jay went missing the following day, as reported by the Mirror, reports the Irish Mirror .

Ayub, who reserved the Airbnb under the name Ayub Abdul, has been in contact with Spanish police, as has another man. Reports suggest that both men remained in Tenerife for an extra day after Jay's disappearance to assist with police inquiries, despite being deemed "irrelevant" to the case by the authorities.

Mr Qassim stated: "I let the geezer stay at mine because he had nowhere else to go, his friends had all left him. I know Jay, through friends, I'm not going to bring someone back to mine if I don't know them. I'm doing the geezer a favor and now my face is all over the news. It's a bit mental. I haven't even done anything."

Back in Barking, east London, Mr Qassim has denied any allegations of a dispute with Jay. Former British police detective Mark Williams-Thomas has raised questions about why Jay didn't return to the Airbnb to charge his phone or get some water, pointing out that Jay " posted a Snapchat saying that he'd taken a £12,000 Rolex from a person ", which is thought to be connected to an incident at the party.

Williams-Thomas remarked: "We've received information that would suggest that Jay left the rental property feeling scared and he would not return to the rental, even though that would have been the most sensible course of action."

He also noted in the video: "We've been unable to validate this in terms of a reported theft" but emphasized: "However, friends of Jay said he would not make this up and the watch was subject of later conversation between the friends."

Renowned investigator Mr Williams-Thomas, known for his work on numerous high-profile missing persons cases, has provided insights into Jay's last known actions. He asserted: "The evidence is that Jay walked off on the rental, walked for about 30 minutes, and then sent his location at 8.49 am and 8.50 am. And we know that he was at that stage off the road on a track with loose stones."
