Buying a new car is an expensive prospect. And sure, you can potentially lower your costs quite a bit by purchasing a used model. But then, you don't always know exactly what you're getting.

The benefit of buying a new car -- or leasing one -- is that there are no surprises. And if there are surprises, you're generally covered by your vehicle's warranty.

Right now, thanks to Costco's auto program, you can snag $1,000 off of several vehicle models if you make a purchase or sign a lease and take ownership through July 31. Here are five vehicles eligible for this limited-time promotion.

    1. The Volvo XC90

Billed as Volvo's most luxurious six- or seven-seat SUV, the Volvo XC90 is loaded with features designed to make your drive smoother. From a built-in navigation system to an air purifier, this stylish SUV is all about a comfortable drive.

    2. The Chevrolet Silverado 1500

In the market for a pickup truck that can handle rough terrain and help you transport supplies with ease? Welcome to the Silverado 1500. Not only can this vehicle get you to your destination smoothly, but it comes equipped with eight cameras so you can navigate with ease -- even if you're used to a much smaller vehicle.

    3. The Chevrolet Blazer EV

If you're looking to make the leap to an EV, now's a good time to consider the Chevy Blazer. This SUV offers an estimated 324 mile-range, so you can take it on longer trips without having to stop in the middle for a charge. It's also loaded with technology (as you'd expect from an EV), including Google-based controls to make navigation easier.

    4. The Cadillac LYRIQ

Here's another option if you'd like your next car to be an EV. The Cadillac LYRIQ gives you a 314-mile range using rear-wheel drive or a 307-mile range using all-wheel drive. Its sleek design and spacious interior make it a great mid-size vehicle to call your own.

    5. The GMC Sierra 1500 Denali

There are pickup trucks, and then there's the GMC Sierra 1500 Denali. With its luxurious interior, premium sound system, and extra storage, it's a vehicle worth looking at if you're ready to upgrade to the pickup truck of your dreams. It also features 16-way power heated and ventilated drive and front passenger seats.

Don't wait to get in on the auto savings

If you're going to buy a new vehicle, then it pays to explore Costco's auto program and see what benefits you're eligible for. For the offer above, to qualify, you'll need to have been a Costco member by April 30, 2024. But if you register for Costco's auto program, you'll be connected with a local dealer who can help you buy or lease your next car.

That said, before you rush into buying or leasing a car, take a look at your budget and see what you can afford. You don't want to buy a car that will be a stretch financially -- even with $1,000 off the usual price.
