There will be eight sections in Class A and 11 teams per section for a total of 88 teams

Fifty-one years after girls volleyball entered the MSHSL as a sanctioned sport in 1974, boys volleyball will join the list of sanctioned MSHSL sports for the spring 2025 season.

Boys volleyball will be divided into eight sections and a single Class A. Each section will have 11 teams.

Section 1A includes Apple Valley, Lakeville North and Lakeville South High Schools. Section 2A features Bloomington Jefferson, Bloomington Kennedy, Burnsville and Eden Prairie. Section 3A includes Eagan and East Ridge. Section 4A features Stillwater and White Bear Lake High Schools. Park Center and Roseville headline Section 5A, while Section 6A features Edina, Hopkins, Minneapolis Southwest, Minneapolis Washburn, Minnetonka and Wayzata. Section 7A includes Andover, Centennial and Forest Lake, and Section 8A features Anoka, Coon Rapids, Elk River, Maple Grove, Rogers and St. Michael-Albertville.

The Elk River-STMA boys team won the Minnesota boys club state championship in 2022, and both Elk River and STMA hope to become the first boys state volleyball champs next spring.

The location of next spring’s state tournament hasn’t been determined. Xcel Energy Center will host the MSHSL girls state volleyball tournament in November.
