BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WSAV) – Beaufort County has officially issued a formal notice of non-compliance to the subsidized ferry provider, Lowcountry Ferry.

The formal notice comes after several months of complaints about the ferry being virtually inaccessible for residents with disabilities who struggle to use the ferry services.

In a statement released Thursday morning, Beaufort County said it is dedicated to upholding high standards of compliance and reliability in the services offered to our community.

In the statement, County Administrator Michael Moore said, “The well-being and satisfaction of our residents remain our top priority and Beaufort County is taking steps to address the contract requirement to have a second qualified vessel available for ferry service. Lowcountry Ferry is required to submit a plan for the County’s consideration in order to remedy the situation.”

Beaufort County says it is doing everything it can to collaborate with Lowcountry Ferry to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
