Former Indianapolis Colts defensive lineman Daniel Muir was arrested on Wednesday along with his wife Kristen Muir after their 14-year-old son, who was reported missing, was found at their home.

Muir has been headline news since his teenage son Bryson went missing after leaving his grandmother’s house nearly three weeks ago. The son of the former NFL player was last seen near Cleveland, according to investigators after the boy’s grandmother Cheryl Wright had called the police on June 16 to report “her grandson was being abused.”

Bryson is said to have had injuries to his face when Wright went to pick him up in Toledo at her daughter’s request before she called the police regarding his safety. "He just said that his dad did it, but he wasn't angry, but he wasn't angry at his father,” Wright said. “He told me that he deserved it and it was OK. So I told him that it wasn't and that nobody should beat their children like that, not if they love them."

Muir was arrested after Indiana State Police executed a search warrant at his home where Bryson was found “safe and well” and is in the custody of Cass County Department of Child Service. The 40-year-old faces charges of domestic battery and obstruction of justice. While Kristen faces a charge of obstruction of justice.

Muir’s NFL career began at Green Bay Packers after he went undrafted in the 2007 NFL Draft , he played three games in his first season after becoming the only undrafted rookie to make the roster out of training camp before he was waived by the Packers at the end of the season. The defensive lineman was claimed by the Indianapolis Colts at the start of the 2008 season, and was re-signed by the team on a one-year $1.7million contract in 2010.

His career then turned into that of an NFL journeyman, jumping from club to club for practice and preseason training camps before being waived. He was signed up by the St. Louis Rams, Colts for a second stint, Packers for a second stint, New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans, before ending at the Oakland Raiders in 2013.

Since retiring from football, Muir engaged in several business ventures and investments in areas such as real estate through connections made via his football fame. Muir, who has a reported net worth of $2million, bought the 59 acres of Logansport land and a house on the property for $450,000 in March 2020 named “Straitway Goshen”.

The listed ownership of the house is under the “Servant Leaders Foundation,” which Muir goes by the title “Pastor.” He’s named on the extreme religious movement group Straitway Truth Ministry’s website as the contact and leader of Straitway’s Indiana location, of which he and his family are members.

Straitway Truth Ministry is headquartered in Tennessee but has chapters around the country, including in Indiana. The church promotes a separate life from mainstream society, advocating for a return to Biblical law and the commandments as they interpret them. Straitways have been accused of cult-like behavior, having extreme control over people’s lives, financial exploitation and social isolation of family members and friends outside the church.
