Have you ever wondered what the drawer at the bottom of your oven is for? If you’ve simply been using it to store trays, you'll be shocked to find that it may have another intended use .

YouTube , content creators at Smart Money Happy Hour stumbled upon a discovery that left them in awe.

They asked: “Did you know this? The drawer in the bottom of your stove is to keep dishes warm.” She explained that it’s not for storing pots and pans but instead, it’s a warming drawer for food .

And the discussion doesn’t stop there. On Reddit, social media users dug deeper into exactly what the warming drawer is for, with many admitting they had only recently found out its intended purpose, and others having a strong opinion about actually using it to store food .

One person said: “After not knowing it was a warming tray for the first 28 years of my life… It’s a taboo to me now and just feels gross to use it for it’s intended purpose. It will remain a storage tray for the rest of my days. And honestly, it’s the only thing big enough to hold my baking sheets without being a nuisance."

Someone else shared an instance in which that section of the oven was not in fact a warming drawer.

They said: “I used to rent a place where that drawer was the broiler. Melted some silicon pot holders before learning that lesson. It's always been a storage drawer for me haha!”

Lots of other people noted that the drawer is not always a warming drawer, and sometimes really is just intended for storing pots and pans.

One social media user said: “Not all drawers in oven are for warming. Some are just a drawer. That being said, when we had a warming drawer on our last range, we used it as a drawer.”

Another individual chimed in: “Our oven has a storage drawer, and as inconvenient as that is to use I can’t imagine ever wanting one with a broiler or warming drawer there.”

A real estate agent added some insight to the discussion. They wrote: “I used to sell real estate, so I've been in a lot of kitchens. Only one kitchen had an actual warming drawer under the oven . The others were all storage drawers.”
