RAINS COUNTY, Texas ( KETK ) — The Rains County Sheriff’s Office is warning parents of a children’s game that could become dangerous.

“It’s a group of teens that team up/solo and have a target list of other players. It started out as water guns and seems to have evolved into some type of rubber ball gun. They then post the hits on a social media platform,” RSCO said.

The sheriff’s office said though the game can be innocent, the rules and players “can get out of hand very quickly”. Some teens have reportedly put GPS locators on “target” vehicles. Officials said a teen was killed in a car accident running from a “hitman.”

A teen was reportedly seen in a tree line and a call to local authorties was made in reference to a man with a gun in the woods. When officials arrived, the teen was reportedly found hiding in the woods and turned out to have a water gun.

However, most of the calls regarding the game have been trespassing calls, RSCO said.

“We are wanting to keep our parents and community in the know and educate the parents of the safety concerns of this game. The biggest concern is the safety of your child, and to prevent innocent fun from turning into something more serious,” Rains County Sheriff Michael Hopkins said.
