West Carteret Fire & EMS Department name new chief

CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — The West Carteret Fire and EMS Department has named a new Chief.

Michael Penuel started his new role as Interim Chief of the department on July 1. He has been with West Carteret for 24 years after beginning his firefighting career in 2001. He was named Fire Captain in 2007, and was then promoted to Assistant Chief of Operations and Training in 2011.

Penuel received his associate’s degree in fire science and bachelor’s degree in fire administration from Columbia Southern University. He went on to get his master’s in organizational leadership/human resources from Waldorf University.

The department posted on Facebook that they look forward to Chief Penuel’s leadership.
