Trader Joe’s recalls popular household item over fire fears

Trader Joe’s has recalled a candle due to safety concerns . The grocery store announced a recall of the Trader Joe’s Mango Tangerine Scented Candle due to its unexpected burn pattern.

The announcement read: “The candle flame can spread from the wick to the wax causing a larger than expected flame, posing a safety risk.”

Customers are warned not to use the candle. Those who have purchased it can discard it or return it to any Trader Joe’s store for a full refund.

The candle came in a 5.7-ounce tin container and is made from a natural coconut-soy wax blend. It was priced at $3.99.

US fire departments responded to an annual estimated average 5,910 home structure fires started by candles, according to the National Fire Protection Association . They cause an annual average of 74 civilian deaths and 558 civilian injuries, as well as $257 million in property damage.
