What Is Colostrum and Why Are Celebrities Using It to Boost Their Health? A Closer Look

In today’s day and age, there are a lot of micro health trends that seem to come and go rather quickly. And the latest one that everyone is talking about? Colostrum. But what is colostrum and why are people so obsessed with it? All of that and more are below!
What is colostrum?
Colostrum is actually a technical term for the first form of breast milk produced during pregnancy. It is filled with the antibody immunoglobulin A, lactoferrin (which helps prevent infections), white blood cells and a protein called epidermal growth factor that stimulates cell growth.
Those things are also found in normal breast milk, but colostrum has two times more zinc and protein. It is also thicker and more yellow because colostrum has less sugar and fat, making it easier to digest.
According to the folks at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, colostrum can support gut health, strengthen the immune system, aid in muscle recovery and boost health at a cellular level .
Why is colostrum so popular right now?
The first wave of colostrum started when Sofia Richie Grainge announced she was going to have a signature Erewhon smoothie entitled Sweet Cherry Smoothie, which has a scoop of vanilla Cowboy Colostrum supplement in it. According to the Erewhon Instagram, it costs $21 and has organic unsweetened almond milk, organic tart cherry juice, Cowboy Vanilla Colostrum, CALM magnesium powder, organic dark sweet cherries, dark organic pure maple syrup, organic pineapple, organic avocado, organic coconut cream and organic pitaya powder.
After that, Kourtney Kardashian-Barker posted an article on her website called “WTF is Colostrum?” where the mother, TV personality, business owner and well-known health guru interviewed Dr. Sarah Rahal, MD , founder of Armra — a supplement website focused on providing colostrum to people.
In the article, Rahal refers to colostrum as “liquid gold,” saying, “It is more similar to an immune blueprint than a food because its nutritional value pales in comparison to its health benefits. [It has] more than 200 living , bioactive nutrients that work to rebuild the body’s immune barriers and fuel cellular health.”
In early June , a rapper named The Kid LAROI launched his own Erewhon smoothie to coincide with his new song “girls,” which is a rich blend of chocolate and the ARMRA Colostrum .
If you can’t — or simply don’t want to — travel to Los Angeles and buy a smoothie at Erewhon, there are other ways to add colostrum into your routine. There are many supplements and powders available on Amazon , Walmart and Target .
