Walmart is set to face a lawsuit that alleges the retail giant often charges higher prices at the register than it advertises on store shelves .

The class action lawsuit , led by plaintiff Yoram Kahn, accuses the world's largest retailer of "deceptive and unfair pricing practices" that affect consumers nationwide.

Kahn argued that while the price discrepancies may be small, they accumulate to "hundreds of millions of dollars each year."

The court found that when Kahn checked out, the actual prices of six items scanned at ten to fifteen percent mark-ups above the shelf prices.

Kahn paid Walmart $1.89 in overcharges on these six items, nearly seven percent of the pre-tax total of his bill . The court noted: "Small change for Kahn as an individual, no doubt, but keep in mind the volume of Walmart's business."

This decision reversed a previous ruling by a lower court judge on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Walmart has revealed plans to introduce digital shelf price labels in stores nationwide to improve the customer experience .
