ASHEVILLE — Vaya Health recently launched Vaya Total Care, an NC Medicaid Managed Care Behavioral Health and Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) Tailored Plan. This new plan is designed for individuals with serious mental health conditions, severe substance use disorders, I/DD, or traumatic brain injuries (TBI), combining a wide range of services into one comprehensive plan.

“Launching whole-person care for over 35,000 people in the communities we serve across 32 counties gives Vaya a major opportunity to improve care,” said Tracy Hayes, Area Director and Chief Executive Officer. “Instead of the fragmented system many now face that can separate and complicate recovery, Vaya Total Care will coordinate care across physical health, behavioral health, I/DD, traumatic brain injury (TBI), Long-term Services and Supports (LTSS), and pharmacy to help Medicaid beneficiaries live healthier lives.”

Vaya Total Care aims to simplify access to care by integrating Medicaid physical and behavioral health care, pharmacy benefits, I/DD services, TBI services, LTSS, and unmet health-related resource needs. The plan includes services available through the NC Innovations Waiver.

Current Vaya health plan members and beneficiaries will have access to at least the same services and supports as they did before, but Vaya will now manage all Medicaid-covered needs. The Vaya Total Care plan offers a range of integrated services and supports to ensure that Medicaid beneficiaries receive comprehensive care tailored to their unique needs.

Integrated Services: Members will have access to physical health care, pharmacy benefits, mental health services, substance use recovery services, I/DD services, TBI services, LTSS, specialized value-added services, and services to address unmet health-related resource needs within one plan.Tailored Care Management: Each member will have access to a single designated care manager supported by a care team to ensure all needs are met, providing seamless coordination and management.

To facilitate the transition, NC Medicaid has created a toolkit with bilingual materials, available at Medicaid.NCDHHS.Gov/Tailored-Plans/Toolkit. Resources include guides on medical transportation, finding participating doctors, 1915(i) home and community-based services, and more. State-Funded behavioral health services for those not covered by Medicaid are also part of Tailored Plans.
