IKEA furniture is designed to be cute, simple, and functional. You could easily do nothing more to it other than assembling it and still have some very chic home decor. I mean, that is what the vast majority of people do, after all. But because a lot of IKEA pieces are minimalist and not particularly ornate, they make for pretty good blank canvases - so why not have fun with it?

Cheslea had a set of stools from IKEA that were... ok. They weren't exactly ugly, but they were pretty plain-jane and didn't have much going for them. But Chelsea wanted to pair them with some "berry" cute fruit-themed furniture in her department, and decided to give them a quick, summery makeover!

When life gives you IKEA stools, make... lemons? OK, that slogan could use a little work, but I digress. Chelsea (aka @chelseazeferina ) could have just stuck the stools under her custom-made strawberry table and no one would have thought anything of it, but why do that when she could put together a whole fruit-and-florals-themed breakfast nook with just a little paint?

Picking the Right Stool for the Job

After doing a little more digging on Chelsea's TikTok, I found out that these are the DOMSTEN stools from IKEA. Each one costs $29.99 and stands just shy of a foot and a half tall, with a 13 3/8" diameter white pine seat and metal legs that come in light green, orange, and lilac.

These stools are pretty cute on their own, and they already have a pretty spring/summer-y vibe with their brightly colored legs. But if you love maximalist decor like I do (and like Chelsea clearly does), those plain pine tops are screaming for a glow-up!

Before Chelsea decorated the lemon stool, she painted the daisy one. Demonstrating her process in an earlier video, she used a glass for the middle flower and traced the petals with a stencil before filling everything in with paint. Though she didn't film herself stenciling out the lines for her lemon stool, I imagine that you could freehand those lines if you're comfortable enough with your drawing skills!

Make sure you're using the right paint for the job, though- and don't forget to seal the finished project! Under the Instagram version of her daisy stool tutorial , Cheslea commented that she used acrylic paints for the design and sealed the top with a couple coats of a water-based polycrylic. Polycrylic finishes are often used to protect wooden surfaces from scratches, and will also keep the paint from wearing away- definitely important if you plan on using these stools for their intended purpose!

Chelsea's cute IKEA flip was a perfect match for her summery strawberry table, but you're obviously not limited to just IKEA furniture if you want to riff off her idea. As long as you've got the right paints and top coats for the surface material, you could recreate this on any light-colored wooden stools or tables... heck, you could paint a whole fruit salad-themed dining room set !
