In a segment on the '4th & 1 Podcast' on YouTube, NFL quarterback Cam Newton gave his candid take on LeBron James getting the chance to play with his son next season. According to Newton, LeBron will reach a new level of focus with his son in the league, who he now has to mentor and guide in his very first season.

“Now he’s playing for something, not that he wasn’t playing for something before," said Cam. "Just think about this, he has a new burning desire, a person that he has to show the ropes, going to be come on son, we gotta get great today. And don’t let Bronny push his dad, ‘Hey pop you in there with my mother f—-ing momma, get your a– out we’ve got to win a championship.' LeBron has purpose now, this mother f—-er has just been rejuvenated, he’s got someone that he can play for now. To show the ropes on the road, in-season, off-season.”

Newton, 35, is a longtime NFL veteran and a former MVP for the Carolina Panthers. He led his team to the Superbowl in 2015 in a highly impressive performance. Sadly, Newton's effectiveness on the field has faded dramatically and he's near the end of his career now. Meanwhile, the Panthers have been a disaster ever since Newton's MVP run. So, like LeBron, Cam knows what it's like to not have anything to play for and it can be hard to be at your best without the proper motivation.

To be blunt, LeBron James didn't have much to play for last season. The Lakers were mediocre and had no chance to win the title. LeBron didn't have his son or really any young player to help develop and "show the ropes." Once the Lakers were eliminated from the playoffs, he even considered potentially signing somewhere else.

But by drafting Bronny at 55, the Lakers gave LeBron the ultimate reason to stay: family. James Jr. is the heir to LeBron's basketball empire and while his modest stats at USC (4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per game) failed to impress the scouts, it was enough for him to get drafted and join his dad in the NBA.

Together, the duo can make history and ensure their family legacy lives on well after LeBron retires. Throughout the season, LeBron won't just be playing meaningless games, he'll be playing to set the example and will be putting in more time than ever to ensure a seamless and fruitful transition for Bronny.

The Lakers are also expected to beef up the supporting cast in some form , which might help make the Lakers a stronger threat to the top teams in the West. After averaging 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.3 rebounds per game on 54% shooting, LeBron proved that he can still play at a high level and he could raise his game even further with something to play for.

Next season, LeBron and Bronny will be one of the biggest stories in the league and everyone will be watching to see how it plays out. The only thing we know for certain is that the pair will be working hard throughout the season and that's great news for Lakers fans.
