A rollover crash in Steuben County has left one person dead, according to the New York State Police.

On July 3, at approximately 4:55 p.m., state police in Bath responded to a motor vehicle accident on State Route 371 near State Route 21 in the town of Cohocton.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle driven by Lukas J. Ellsessor, 31, of Angelica, NY, was traveling north on State Route 371 when it passed another vehicle in a no-passing zone, according to troopers. Ellsessor lost control of the vehicle, causing it to exit the roadway and roll over, troopers said.

A 26-year-old male passenger was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the passenger has not been released.

Ellsessor was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, troopers said.

The New York State Police were assisted by the Cohocton Police Department, Cohocton Fire Department, Atlanta Fire Department, Hornell DOT, and Kanona DOT.

    The investigation is ongoing.
