NBA legend Charles Barkey recently announced his retirement from television, effective at the end of the 2024-25 campaign. While most fans are upset at the news, former NBA big man Charles Oakley roasted Barkley and argued that his exit from TV is long overdue.

"Who gives a fuck about Charles Barkley? He needs to go to the gym and worry about his health," said Oakley in a chat with Brandon 'Scoop B' Robinson. "His mouth is gonna get him in trouble. I mean, he’s a clown point blank. He looks for attention and the stuff that he says now he would have never said back in the day about no player. Someone’s gonna punch him in his fat mouth!"

Oakley is a legend for the Knicks and a former All-Star who was at his best in the early 90s. Even back then, he was known as a roughrider amongst his peers and one of those "enforcers" who didn't take nonsense from anybody. He retired in 2004 with career averages of 9.7 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 0.3 blocks per game on 47% shooting.

Like Oakley, Charles Barkley has always been somewhat of a contrarian when it comes to his takes and opinions. The Suns legend is known as one of the greatest players ever for his accolades, which include an MVP in 1993, 11 All-Star appearances, and 11 All-NBA selections among others.

Since retiring, Barkley (now 61) has become the face of NBA broadcasting for Turner Sports. His frequent appearances on "Inside the NBA" over 20+ years have almost made him more famous for the show than his NBA career.

Naturally, Chuck is so interesting because of the outlandish statements that he often says with confidence, even if it might hurt someone's feelings. Clearly, he struck a nerve with Oakley somewhere down the line and he's been holding a grudge against him ever since.

Back in 2022, Oakley went so far as to say he wanted to box Barkley and even admitted to "slapping the sh*t" out of the former Suns big man during an altercation back in 1998 . So to say there is bad blood between them might be an understatement.

Of course, after so long on television, Barkley's career is finally coming to an end. TNT and Turner Sports will soon lose the NBA media rights and the famed 'Inside the NBA' broadcast show will soon be a thing of the past. Barkley, who has hinted at retirement several times before, has announced that he's stepping away for good after the show's final season.

It's truly the end of a spectacular era for so many NBA fans but for Oakley, this day couldn't come soon enough. After everything he's said about players (both current and former), it's obvious that he burned some bridges during this media run. But out of all the critics, nobody would be happier than Oakley to see Barkley out of the public spotlight once and for all.
