USMNT trolled by Jesse Marsch again as ex-Leeds boss takes another Copa America swipe

Former Premier League manager Jesse Marsch has issued further bitter comments about the United States men's national team after the Americans were dumped from the Copa America . After U.S. Soccer denied him the USMNT head coach job in favor of bringing back Gregg Berhalter , Marsch, now the boss of Canada, has been critical of his home country.

Marsch took over Canada after a club stint in England with Leeds, and he's brought the squad to the Copa America knockout stages, which the USMNT and Mexico failed to reach.

"I would love to say I'm just focused on what we're doing here in Canada, but obviously, I'm paying attention, as always, to the U.S. men's national team and like you, I'm sad," Marsch told FOX Sports this week. "I'm disappointed by the performances, by the lack of discipline. There's a lot of things that I think we've tried to be about, about the game in the US, and we've always believed in this group of players."

He added: "Because I'm not there every day, I don't have my finger on the pulse of exactly what's going on but, certainly, it's not what we had expected before this tournament. And somehow, they've got to come up with solutions."

Marsch also expressed appreciation for Canada after the federation trusted him to take charge of one of its most talented rosters ever. After the group of players struggled at the World Cup in Qatar, it has taken a massive step forward at the Copa America.

"I'll tell you, I'm glad I'm here, man," Marsch said. "Because the people that I work with and the players that I work with, the things that we know that we can achieve together, the support that we have from inside the country, the support system for this entire national team is so positive, so I think it gives us a real chance to develop something and build something and be ready for a big tournament come 2026."

The "big tournament" Marsch referenced is the 2026 World Cup, which Canada will co-host. By advancing Canada from the Copa America group stage, he has virtually assured himself of continued employment through that occasion two years from now. Matches will be held in Toronto and Vancouver.

At the ongoing Copa America, meanwhile, Canada will meet Venezuela on Friday night in a quarter-final clash. It must avoid the same fate as Mexico, which was accused of underestimating the upstart South American team in an upset group-stage defeat.

Canada's front line will be led by superstar striker Jonathan David, who has thrived at club level with Lille in Ligue 1.
