    Historic Granite School saved from Berry Fire

    BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Kern County Firefighters fought the Berry Fire off Woody Granite Road Wednesday saving a historic building in the process.

    Firefighters said the fire was threatened structures in the area and air support arrived shortly after. The pilots estimated the fire had the potential to burn about 1,000 acres.

    KCFD called in additional water resources with retardant drops from planes and helicopters. The spread of the fire was quickly stopped and crews said only 60 acres burned.

    Fire crews managed to save multiple homes as well as an important piece of history — the Granite School.

    No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
