WICHITA COUNTY ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Independence Day is finally here, and when you mention the Fourth, you can’t help but think of fireworks.

After the lift of the burn ban in 2022, local fireworks stands are seeing an influx in sales as customers flock to purchase a variety of fireworks to bring in the Fourth of July with a bang!

Rushing’s Pyrotechnics is one business reaping the benefits. Owner Tyler Rushing said he’s grateful that the burn ban was lifted, but people still have to be careful when setting off fireworks under these dry conditions.

“No one wants to take a risk of catching anything on fire; even in a couple of shows I’ve done recently, there were fires,” Rushing said. “If you’re lighting fireworks, you have to be really careful right now.”

Rushing said fire departments are on stand-by at fireworks shows and even had to take action in Burkburnett on July 3.

“We had to stop the show, put out the fire, and restart the show,” he said.

Back at his firework stands, customers are stocking up on everything from sparklers to aerial displays, telling us what some of their favorites are.

“My favorite fireworks to buy personally for myself are the cake ones,” a customer explained. “The really good cake that they have here is the Moby Dick one, a very beautiful setting.”

This customer added that her children enjoy Rushing’s backpack firework assortments.

“It’s filled with nothing but, like, fountains and the cute little tanks, something that the kids would really enjoy,” she said.

As people enjoy their Fourth of July celebrations, anticipation remains high for both buyers and sellers, marking a promising season for fireworks enthusiasts and businesses.
