Amid Increasing Pressure, Biden Tells Reporters at White House: ‘I’m Not Going Anywhere’

President Joe Biden told reporters in front of the White House on Thursday that he plans to stay in the November race amid growing pressure from his party to step aside.

Last week, Biden had a disastrous performance at CNN’s debate against former President Donald Trump , where he struggled at times to answer questions coherently and explain his policy agenda. Now Democratic donors, lawmakers, and pundits have begun pressuring the president to bow out of the race before the convention.

On Thursday, during a speech on the White House lawn, Biden praised WW2 veterans as heroes who fought for freedom and democracy. The speech appeared designed to reassure the president’s supporters that he is still capable of running for office against Trump.

As Biden finished his speech, he responded to reporters about his political future, adding that he was not backing down from the 2024 race.

“You got me, man. I’m not going anywhere. Alright,” Biden told reporters as a crowd of supporters cheered in the background.

According to multiple reports, Biden spoke with Democratic governors at a private meeting at the White House on Wednesday evening, where he attempted to reassure them about his candidacy.

The president told the elected officials that he needed to get more sleep and that his staff have been instructed to avoid scheduling events for him after 8 p.m.
