WEST UNION, W.Va. (WBOY) — To celebrate Independence Day, Doddridge County Parks and Recreation hosted an event where the whole community could come together and enjoy the holiday.

Doddridge County Parks and Recreation held its “Red, White and Boom” celebration at Doddridge County Park off Snow Bird Road where swimming, food and fireworks could be enjoyed by everyone who came out.

Doddridge County Parks and Recreation Commission Director Greg Cottrill told 12 News that the group tried to host an event with a good environment for families and friends to spend the holiday together.

“We take great pride in making sure we can offer a clean facility, someplace people can enjoy, bring their kids, have fun. We want to make certain that we’re fully operational any holiday in the summer so people can make sure that they have a place to come,” Cottrill said.

Events began early in the day with crafts like slime-making and tie-dying available for kids. Swimming at the Doddridge County Pool commenced shortly after which gave people a great way to cool down and relax with the family.

Fireworks are set to kick off at the park at 10:00 p.m., and an ice cream truck and a food truck serving all-American classics will be available throughout the show.

You can keep up with upcoming events at the Doddridge County Park like the Doddridge County Fair and the Ephraim Bee Festival through the park’s website or by calling 304-873-1663.
