Liverpool icon Didi Hamann has cast a watchful eye on England's midfield maestro Jude Bellingham , warning the youngster that he's flirting with controversy at Euro 2024.

At just 21 and having found the net twice this tournament, Bellingham turned savior for England against Slovakia, clawing their campaign back from the brink. His dramatic overhead kick in the dying moments sparked an outburst as he turned to the stands and roared, "Who else".

He's also faced scrutiny for making a suggestive gesture now under UEFA's microscope and causing a stir by clashing with Filip Kostic during the Slovenian match.

Fresh from being crowned La Liga Player of the Year and snagging the coveted Champions League title with Real Madrid in his first season, confidence isn't something Bellingham lacks. Yet, Liverpool's old guard Hamann perceives a troubling pattern emerging and doesn't shy away from cautioning the young gun.

"I think there is definitely a danger that Jude Bellingham is starting to believe his own fairy tales," warned Hamann while speaking with Gambling Zone. "There was his celebration and then when he walked past the Slovakia bench, he did something that offended them.

"He said afterwards that it was a private joke aimed at his friends who were sat near them. I don't know if that's true or not, but I think he's got to be careful because in the first game, he ran into Kostic after he won the tackle, and he was lucky not to get booked for that.

"He's got to leave them things out because there's always someone bigger than you and the other players will watch his antics."

"I think he's got to be very careful because the one thing you shouldn't do is disrespect your opponents," added Hamann. "Against Slovakia, he made his excuses, but it wouldn't have been the first time that something had happened to him. Somebody has to tell him it's needless and he should cut it out."

UEFA is looking into actions from Bellingham after the Slovakia match a suspension for the quarter-final against Switzerland looming less likely.

Reacting to the incident on social media, Bellingham clarified: "An inside joke gesture towards some close friends who were at the game. Nothing but respect for how that Slovakia team played tonight."

Despite scraping by Slovakia in their latest match, England's form still invites scrutiny. With Trippier out injured, it looks like Liverpool's own Joe Gomez might take up left-back duties.

Meanwhile, Southgate has rotated three different players in four games alongside Declan Rice in the midfield, with Manchester United's Kobbie Mainoo being the most recent to make his mark. England's difficulty in consistently creating opportunities has led to a growing demand for Cole Palmer to be included in the starting lineup, as well as calls for Southgate to utilize Anthony Gordon's pace more effectively against rival defenses.
