Where to watch Canada vs. Venezuela live stream, TV channel, lineups, prediction for Copa America 2024 quarterfinal

Two surprise stories at the 2024 Copa America will battle for a place in the semifinals as Venezuela and Canada square off at AT&T Stadium on Friday.

Venezuela, known as La Vinotinto, stunned everyone by topping Group B with nine points, capping their group stage with a 3-0 win over Jamaica. Canada, meanwhile, finished as Group A runners-up after a hard-fought 0-0 draw with Chile on matchday three.

Venezuela's journey began with a late first-half deficit against Ecuador, but they have since turned into the tournament's underdog story, winning all three group matches for the first time. Under Fernando Batista's calming influence, they have shown tremendous defensive stability, conceding just once in their last four matches across all competitions. A victory would see them reach the semifinals for the first time since 2011.

On the other side, Canada has made history by advancing beyond the group stage in their first-ever Copa America appearance. Jesse Marsch's team, built on togetherness and intensity, has adapted quickly to his approach. After a tough loss to the Netherlands, they have recorded three clean sheets in their last four competitive fixtures. While they have struggled to score in the first half this year, they have also kept their opponents at bay in the opening 45 minutes for eight consecutive matches.

This quarterfinal clash will be only the third meeting between these teams, with the previous two ending in draws. Fans can expect a tight and thrilling encounter as both sides aim for a historic semifinal berth.

Canada vs. Venezuela lineups & team news

Canada faces a significant setback with Tajon Buchanan unavailable due to a broken tibia, which required surgery. Ismael Kone , who recently signed with Ligue 1 side Marseille, is likely to return to the lineup after sitting out the final group match.

Jonathan David , who scored Canada's only goal in the group stage, continues to be a crucial player for the Canucks. Goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau will look to maintain his impressive form, having posted consecutive clean sheets.

Canada projected starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Crepeau (GK) — Johnston, Bombito, Cornelius, Davies — Kone, Eustaquio — Ahmed, David, Laryea — Larin.

Venezuela will be without Darwin Machis , who received a second booking on matchday three. Nahuel Ferraresi and Miguel Navarro should return to the starting lineup after being kept off the field against Jamaica to avoid further yellow cards.

Yeferson Soteldo is expected to reclaim his place in midfield, replacing Machis . Jefferson Savarino and Cristian Casseres are also pushing for spots in the starting eleven as attacking midfielders.

Salomon Rondon , Venezuela's record goalscorer, will aim to add to his tally after notching his second goal of the competition against Jamaica. Eduard Bello and Eric Ramirez , who both found the net on matchday three, are also key attacking options for La Vinotinto.

Venezuela projected starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Romo (GK) — Aramburu, Ferraresi, Y. Osorio, Navarro — Martinez, Herrera —  Bello, Casseres, Soteldo — Rondon.

    Canada vs. Venezuela prediction

    • Score prediction: Canada 1-1 Venezuela (Venezuela to win on penalties)

The Canadians have shown resilience throughout the tournament, but Venezuela's experience and composure, particularly from key players like Salomon Rondon, will be decisive.

In a tense penalty shootout, we expect Venezuela to hold their nerve and advance to the semifinals.
