How Clyde Drexler's hackling brought Steph Curry and Klay Thompson closer together: "Look at these country club swing"

Given Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson 's seamless chemistry on the court, one would assume that the two got along right from the get-go. It's easy to imagine the two hanging out during practices and off the court.

But the reality is that the Splash Brothers took a while to form. In Klay's appearance on Podcast P with Paul George, the 3-point assassin revealed he didn't start talking to Steph until their third year together. Dream Team legend Clyde Drexler served as a bridge between the two shooters.

    The critical golf game

Klay said he got to know Stephen when they played for Team USA one summer. Since they had nothing else to do, they played golf; they were accompanied by NBA legends Clyde Drexler and Dominique Wilkins .

Thompson recalls Drexler keeping on teasing their golf swings, which became a running joke. To an extent, this may have been one of the incidents that drew Steph and Klay close to each other.

"Our relationship didn't really build until our third year when we played for that Team USA and we finally hung out off the court 'cause we had nothing else to do," he said . "So we went and played golf. We finally got to know each other on the golf course. We played with Dominique Wilkins and Clyde Drexler. That was so much fun playing with them. Clyde just kept on making fun of us, 'Look at these country club swings!'"

    End of an era

Thompson's departure from Golden State signifies the end of an era. Fans would've wished for the Splash Brothers to extend their run, but alas, such is life. Klay's decision to join the Dallas Mavericks should be respected.

Curry sent a heartfelt message to Klay when news broke about his decision. More than the four championship rings and their influence , Curry thanked Thompson for the friendship.

"Gonna miss you @klaythompson," Curry wrote on his Instagram. "Even though we won't finish the journey together, what we did will never be done again. Couldn't have imagined a better run with you and @money23green. Changed the whole Bay Area. Changed the way the game is played. Killa' Klay at the center of it all. Thank you for everything bro. Go enjoy playing basketball and doing what you do."

While it's unfortunate that their era has come to an end, there's no reason to fret. The two guards are healthy, and their first match-up against each other should be something to look out for.
