Weather Aware Through Friday for Heat

Friday will remain hot and humid ahead of a cold front moving into Alabama from the northwest. This front will set off scattered to numerous showers and storms. A few storms could be strong with heavy rain and gusty winds. High temperatures will be in the lower to middle 90s, and the heat index will be 105°+ before it storms.

Weekend Outlook : The cold front will stall across South-Central Alabama this weekend. High pressure will sit north of Alabama, ushering in drier air from the northeast. Saturday will be partly cloudy with spotty showers and storms mainly along and south of I-20 where the cold front will stall. High temperatures will be in the lower 90s. Sunday will be partly cloudy, hot, and less humid with only a shower or two. High temperatures will be in the middle 90s.

Next Week’s Outlook : The old cold front will lift north as a warm front on Monday and Tuesday. It will be partly cloudy with scattered showers and storms each day. Highs will be in the lower 90s, and the heat index 100-105°. Wednesday through Friday will be hot and humid with daily scattered storms. Highs will be in the lower 90s and the heat index 100-105°

Tracking the Tropics : Beryl is now back up to a Category 3 hurricane from a Category 2 in the NW Caribbean. It continues to battle strong wind shear. That will slowly weaken the hurricane to a high-end Category 1 by the time it makes landfall on the Yucatan Peninsula early Friday morning. It will track over land and into the Bay of Campeche where it is forecast to weaken into a tropical storm. The forecast calls for the storm to regain hurricane status before another landfall near the North Mexico/Texas border on Sunday. Eventually, the inland remnants of Beryl could bring rain to the Gulf Coast States early next week.

Invest 96L, a fast-moving tropical wave, is producing disorganized thunderstorms. Development, if any, will be slow to occur over the next few days as it is in the wake of Beryl. This system is forecast to cross the Yucatan Peninsula this weekend and enter the Bay of Campeche early next week. NHC is giving this system a low chance of developing.
