Two development projects in Middlesex County were named among the best in the state by the New Jersey Business & Industry Association (NJBIA).

The 64 th Annual New Good Neighbor Awards honor 10 development projects across the state that made a significant contribution to their communities. Presented by the NJBIA and its magazine, New Jersey Business Magazine, this year’s winners featured two projects that were completed in Middlesex County in 2023.

Blanquita B. Valenti Community School in New Brunswick is one of those projects. Started in 2021 by the New Brunswick Development Corporation (DEVCO), the school was originally in an overcrowded building, then known as the Lincoln Annex School. Thanks to DEVCO’s partnership with RWJBarnabas Health, $55 million was dedicated to building a new school.

The school was completed in September 2023, with 126,000 square feet and able to hold over 800 students and 110 staff for its first year.

The other Middlesex County project honored was the construction of the new Manasquan Bank in Metuchen. Although the bank moved across Main Street, the facility is worth $3.7 million, with 5,360 square feet that is home to “modern amenities and services.”

The project, which was completed in May 2023, also included the transport of a historic vault door that weighs five tons. The door was made in the 1880s and serves as a crucial piece of the bank and its history.

“These winning projects improve our quality of life, revitalize neighborhoods, provide valuable services and resources and bring communities together. We are grateful for the benefits these projects have brought to New Jersey and congratulate the winners,” said NJBIA President & CEO Michele Siekerka in a news release.
