    Restaurant inspections from Monroe County, June 17-30

    These establishments in Monroe County were inspected between June 17 and 30, according to Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture records.

    The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture provides this disclosure: "Please remember that any inspection is a 'snapshot' of the day and time of the inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Also, at the time of the inspection, violations are recorded but are often corrected on site prior to the inspector leaving the establishment."

    Out of compliance

    Monroe Lunchbox by Marilyn (mobile food facility): 2138 Warwick Circle, Tobyhanna

    Inspected June 17. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 15

    Inspector determined the person in charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety. Inspector observed food employees not wearing proper hair restraints; facility using /offering for sale foods prepared in an unapproved private home; eggs and raw chicken stored above ready-to-eat foods in the refrigerator; a broken wooden cutting board in use; sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration not available; warewash sink without hot water; and a buildup of old food and old food residue in the microwave oven. Observed water for facility not available; the handwash sink did not have water of at least 85 degrees; the handwash sink being used as a food preparation sink; three-compartment sink did not have hot/cold water handles to properly operate; soap unavailable at the handwash sink; single use towels, continuous towels or air drying device unavailable at the handwash sink; and the facility was extremely dirty, dusty, and in need of cleaning.

    A follow-up inspection on June 18 found zero violations.

    MT Palace: 5 Sterling Road, Mount Pocono

    Inspected June 20. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 8

    Inspector observed the walk-in cooler was not operational; the walk-in cooler was unable to maintain the required temperature; sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration not available; chlorine chemical sanitizer residual in the dishwasher at 0 ppm, not 50-100 ppm as required; and deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Observed a gap in the back door in the kitchen area not protecting against the entry of insects, rodents and other animals; a cracked ceiling light with a piece of plastic missing; and facility did not submit a HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) plan for sushi rice.

    A follow-up inspection on June 25 found zero violations.

    Dunkin’ at St. Luke’s: 174 Harvest Lane, Pocono Summit

    Inspected June 25. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 1

    Inspector observed a backup of sewage/wastewater in the restroom and the floor drains in the food production/kitchen area.

    A follow-up inspection the same day found zero violations.

    Bloomin’ Onion: 1148 Route 390, Cresco

    Inspected June 27. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 13

    Inspector determined the person in charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety. Inspector observed spoiled beef/steak in the walk-in cooler; raw animal foods stored above ready-to-eat foods in the walk-in cooler; various dressings held at too high a temperature (voluntarily disposed of); refrigerated ready-to-eat food not being date marked; walk-in cooler not maintaining required temperature; and sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration not available. Observed a black and pink mold-like substance on the interior surfaces and tubing of the ice machine, a buildup of old food and old food residue in the microwave, a buildup of old food residue on the manual can opener blade and dirty knives on the magnetic mounted knife holder. Observed tongs and strainer, in kitchen area, with an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue, debris on non-food contact surfaces; a buildup of old food residue on the handles of stove, top rim of bain marie and shelving of cook line; soap unavailable at the handwash sink in the bar area; no single use towels, continuous towels or air drying device at the handwash sink in the bar area; and the kitchen area was extremely dirty, dusty, and in need of cleaning.

    A-Ok Market: 691 Resica Falls Road, East Stroudsburg

    Inspected June 17. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 4

    Inspector observed various sandwiches, salads, Lunchables, cakes and juices held at too high a temperature (all time/temperature control for safety food items were voluntarily disposed of); prepackaged cakes and Danishes not labeled properly with product and allergen information; grab and go refrigerator not maintaining required temperature; and sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration not available.

    Follow-up inspection after being out of compliance with eight violations on June 6.

    Wendy’s: 612 N. Courtland St., East Stroudsburg

    Inspected June 18. Jurisdiction: East Stroudsburg Borough. Violations: 1

    Inspector observed various foods in sandwich units held at too high a temperature. Repair technician was called. Foods were transferred to a walk-in cooler or put on ice. Temperature logs indicated food did not need to be discarded.

    Paradise Stream Resort – Spooner’s: 6208 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco

    Inspected June 18. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 1

    Inspector observed the hot water used for sanitizing in the mechanical warewashing machine did not get hot enough.

    Follow-up inspection after being out of compliance with eight violations on June 11.

    Chinatown One: 674 Route 196, Suite 5, Tobyhanna

    Inspected June 18. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 2

    Inspector observed cardboard being used to line the shelving and a buildup of dust on the walk-in cooler fan guards.

    Inspector observed toilet rooms do not have a self-closing door.

    ZamZam Farm Market: 19 William St., Stroudsburg

    Inspector observed the facility does not employee a certified employee as required; the rear door to the outside was not self-closing and/or was being propped open for ventilation; and mops not being hung to air dry.

    Koby’s Creekside Grill: 3292 Route 611, Bartonsville

    Inspected June 20. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 2

    Inspector observed old food and old food residue on the interior surfaces of the microwave oven and the cutting surfaces of the wall mounted potato cutter; and dirty outer surfaces and handles of refrigerators.

    East Gourmet Buffet: 3578 Route 611, Suite 220, Bartonsville

    Inspected June 20. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 1

    Inspector observed evidence of insect activity in the buffet and kitchen areas. Facility recently began using pest control service. Observed approximately six or seven dead cockroaches in the facility.

    Inspector observed an insect control device in the kitchen area with the potential to contaminate food, equipment, and/or utensils.

    Inspector observed facility selling prepackaged enclosed pastry products filled with various types of meats and is not inspected by the USDA (products pulled from sale).

    Fraternal Order of Eagles #1106: 1210 N. 5th St., Stroudsburg

    Inspected June 21. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 1

    Inspector observed chlorine chemical sanitizer residual in the dishwasher at 0 ppm, not 50-100 ppm as required.

    Follow-up inspection after being out of compliance with 12 violations on May 17.

    Pinecrest Pool: 126 Lost Lakes Lane, Pocono Pines

    Inspected June 24. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 2

    Inspector observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required; and the doors of the bain marie and table under grill area in need of cleaning.

    Dunkin’: 1000 Premium Outlets Drive, B15, Tannersville

    Inspected June 24. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 5

    Inspector observed an open employee's beverage container on the counter service bain marie area; a food employee wearing a visor ball cap under the hair and not properly securing the hair; wet wiping cloths in counter service area not being stored in sanitizer solution; and a black mold-like substance on the interior surfaces around the ice chute of the ice machine (cleaned and sanitized). Observed a buildup of old food residue on the underside of the splash guard of the Coolatta machine, the underside of the cream dispensing machine, the cappuccino maker, the hot chocolate dispensing machine and around the rim in the refrigerator drawer of the bain marie; and a buildup of old spilled coffee on the bottom of the kitchen refrigerator.

    Atlantic Travel Center: 4300 Manor Drive, Stroudsburg

    Inspected June 26. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 4

    Inspector observed old food and old food residue on the cooling rack and old food residue on equipment doors, handles and shelving; a gap in the receiving door not protecting against the entry of insects, rodents and other animals; ceiling tiles missing in the kitchen area; and a buildup of static dust on the grated ceiling vents and around ceiling exhaust vents.

    Camp Canadensis canteen: 199 Camp Canadensis Road, Canadensis

    Inspector observed working containers in the kitchen area, used for storing chemicals/cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical.
