New Korean Movie Hijack 1971 (2024): Release Date, Cast & More

The Korean movie Hijack 1971 is the latest action-crime drama set to release in the United States in July 2024 . Based on a true story , it stars Ha Jung-Woo and Yeo Jin-Goo in lead roles. The storyline revolves around the hijacking of a South Korean domestic aircraft that is forced to land in North Korea.

The official synopsis reads, “The movie depicts the story of people fighting for their lives in an extreme situation when a passenger plane is hijacked in the airspace of Korea in 1971.” South Korean Air Force pilot Tae-In takes control of the aircraft after Captain Gyu Sik gets injured. Hijacker Yong Dae bombs the flight and demands to take it to North Korea, where his brother lives.

The Korean movie Hijack 1971 is set to hit theaters in the US on Friday, July 5, 2024 . Initially, it was released in South Korea on Friday, June 21, 2024. Its run time is one hour and forty minutes.

Hijack 1971 cast & the characters they play

The Hijack 1971 cast includes Ha Jung-Woo as Korean Air Force pilot Tae-In, Sung Dong-Il as Captain Gyu-Sik, Chae Soo-Bin as flight attendant Ok Soon, and Yeo Jin-Goo as hijacker Yong Dae. The characters are based on real-life people; however, the names are different.

Hotel del Luna actor Jin-Goo takes up the antagonist role in the film. In a press conference , he said, “There was a real person that Yong Dae is based on, but I mainly created the character when discussing with the director and watching the films that the director recommended.” He added, “As I focused on Yong Dae’s state of mind and his situation before the bombing (of the plane), rather than after the bombing, the expression and the look of the character naturally came.”

Filmmaker Kim Sung-Han has directed the project, and interestingly, it is his directorial debut. The movie also stars Moon You-Kang, Im Se-Mi, Kim Sun-Young, Chung Ye-Jin, Moon Woo-Jin, and Kim Chul-Yoon.

Hijack 1971 will premiere on July 5, 2024, in the US.
