Missing Jay Slater's devastated best friend shares unseen picture of teen after he vanished in Spain

Lucy Law, a close friend of the missing Englishman Jay Slater, has shared a touching picture of them together before he vanished in Tenerife. Posting the photo with a tearful emoji and a blue heart, Lucy expressed her emotions following his disappearance nearly three weeks ago. The young man, just 19, went missing after 8 am on 17 June.

Lucy, who had the last chat with Jay, shared the picture on Instagram . He was last known to be alive when he rang her up, saying he was "lost in the middle of nowhere".

The young apprentice bricklayer had been at the NRG music part with a couple of friends before he went missing, and his last known whereabouts was Rural de Teno Park up north on the Canary Island. It's been said before that he's stayed at an Airbnb for the night and he was last seen by two men at the property.

Lucy reckons Jay had plans to walk back to his accommodation from the Airbnb after he missed his bus, a trek that'd take about 11 hours by foot. She mentioned too that his mobile was nearly dead, with only one percent battery left, reports the Mirror .

Earlier, Lucy called the whole thing "weird" and remarked: "There's something weird going on. It is suspicious. In two days you're telling me someone's not seen him. There's a restaurant 10 minutes away that he would have seen or walked past. It's suspicious and it's weird."

His friend had earlier remarked: "Fair enough it didn't open for another two hours but if that were me I would have sat and waited at the restaurant till it opened. As soon as it opened I would have said, 'Please can you put my phone on charge' and then I would have rung someone, I would have rung a taxi."

Lucy didn't speak publicly about the case for two weeks, but she did post an update when she tracked down two witnesses who saw Jay just an hour before he disappeared. She recounted: "We managed to find the house. I knocked on the door and there were two people there."

She continued by sharing that they informed her Jay had gone out to buy some cigarettes before heading back to their flat. But upon his return, he apparently expressed a desire to get back to his own digs.

"They told me he'd spoken to the next-door neighbors and they'd told him there was a bus every 10 minutes back down to Los Cristianos," she added. "The bus stop was right beside the house. So clearly, if he'd gone to catch the bus he wouldn't have got lost because it [the stop] was in plain sight from the front door."

On Thursday, Ayub Qassim, the man who rented out the Airbnb, spoke about the disappearance, confirming that Jay was alive when he arrived and also when he left the property. Spanish police have already interviewed Qassim and a friend but found them not to be involved in the case.

Speaking to The Mail, Qassim explained he allowed the 19-year-old to stay because "he had nowhere else to go" after his friends "had left him". He mentioned knowing the young bricklayer through friends and considered it a "favor" to let him stay.

The ground search for the missing 19-year-old has been halted, but Spanish officials continue their investigation. His mother Debbie Duncan has recently made a heartfelt plea, stating: "Jay is a normal guy who is in his third year of an apprenticeship, and he is a very popular young man with a large circle of friends.

"We are a very close family and are absolutely devastated about his disappearance. Words cannot describe the pain and agony we are experiencing. He is our beautiful boy with his whole life ahead of him and we just want to find him. We do not have any information on his whereabouts."

"The Guardia Civil have worked tirelessly up in the mountains where Jay's last phone call was traced. They conducted a land search for 12 days which involved every resource they had available. Although the land search ended, the Spanish police still continue with their investigations into why Jay had traveled to the location so far away from his accommodation. We offer our sincere thanks to the Spanish authorities who continue to follow lines of inquiries."
