    Toddler killed, hit by truck at North Carolina campground on Fourth of July

    MORGANTON, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A toddler was killed in Burke County Thursday morning after being struck by a pickup truck, state troopers say.

    According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at 10:40 a.m. July 4 in the Steel Creek Park and Family Campground off NC 181.

    A 2019 Chevrolet Silverado was reportedly attempting to pull around a building and struck an 18-month-old child who walked in front of the truck.

    The toddler was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The Silverado driver, of Prosperity, West Virginia, was not injured.

    The investigation indicates speed and alcohol were not contributing circumstances in the collision. No charges will be filed in this case.
