HAMILTON, Ohio (WDTN) — The Butler Country General Health District (BCGHD) issued a release confirming a new case of measles in the county.

A child less than a year old is said to have acquired measles during international travel. The child returned to the U.S. through a Chicago-area airport and returned to Ohio by car.

Close contacts are being notified and-or have already been notified of exposure. If you don’t receive a call from the BCGHD then it is safe to assume that you were not exposed.

The BCGHD recommends a measles vaccination for anyone 1 year or older who is currently unvaccinated.

What happens to people experiencing sundowning in the summer?

The county agency states that the disease is highly contagious and can be spread through the air by infected individuals who cough or sneeze. Symptoms include fever, runny nose, cough and rash.

There is no specific treatment for measles according to the agency.

Call your health provider if you’re unsure of you or your child’s vaccination status. Call the Butler County General Health District at 513-863-1770 to ask any questions or to schedule an appointment.
