Stranger Things Season 4 spoilers below.

As you are probably aware, production on the highly-anticipated fifth and final season of Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things is currently underway, and fans can’t wait to find out how it is all going to end.

In recent months, British actor Joseph Quinn has sparked speculation that he will be making an appearance in the upcoming episodes — despite his character, Eddie Munson , being killed off back in Season 4.

For context, Joseph became an overnight sensation when he made his debut as nonconformist outsider Eddie in 2022.

The character immediately captured viewers’ hearts by taking the kids in the show under his wing when they started high school, and he was at the center of many key scenes from the season.

This includes his heartbreaking death in the Season 4 finale, when Eddie sacrificed himself to help Dustin fend off evil Vecna’s demobats. He ultimately died in Dustin’s arms, but in order to get out alive, Dustin was forced to leave Eddie’s body in the Upside Down.

And as excitement for the final season has grown, people have started to speculate that Eddie could return in some capacity — either in flashback scenes, or as a result of him never actually making it back to the real world.

Joseph has done little to dispel the speculation . Just last month, ET’s Rachel Smith said to him during a red-carpet interview that she had a feeling fans will be seeing Eddie again. Joseph replied at the time: "Do you? You have a feeling, huh. I might have that feeling, too… Or maybe I don't? Who knows!"

This came soon after a fan directly asked Joseph if he was “coming back next season” at a convention. The star appeared flustered as he giggled before saying: "I do know...but I'm not telling you."

And Joseph has now added fuel to the fire after being asked about a potential Stranger Things return during an appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast this week.

After Josh asked: “Are you going to appear in the final season of Stranger Things ?” Joseph could be seen seemingly checking the information with somebody else in the room.

However, Josh quickly pointed out to viewers that there wasn’t actually anybody there, and Joseph was just pretending in a bid to avoid the question. The host exclaimed: “You’re a good actor — he’s not even looking at anybody!”

Joseph then confirmed that he does know what is going to happen in the upcoming season, saying: “I’m excited to see how they do it. I think it’s going to be amazing. I’ve heard some ideas from the fifth season, and I think it’s going to surpass all of our expectations.”

When Josh expressed his shock that Joseph had been told this information, the actor attempted to downplay how he found out. He said: “I mean, I’m just excited to see. I’m not saying anything.”

“I’ve heard whispers,” he added before joking: “I had to tie them to a chair and get it out of them! But I do know now, I know some bits, and it sounds very exciting. I’m very excited to see how they pull it off, and I’ve no doubts that it’s very much within all of their capacities — the showrunners, the direction, the cast, everything.”

“I think it’s going to be a wonderful Swan Song to that incredible TV show,” Joseph concluded.

Earlier in the podcast, Joseph also revealed that his iconic Eddie Munson hairstyle was very nearly completely different, and that showrunners originally wanted his hair to emulate David Bowie ’s iconic Labyrinth look.

“It was a bit of a process, to be honest,” Joseph said of his wig. “There was something that was a little more elevated, that was kind of like a David Bowie Labryinth situation, that they wanted me to adopt.”

“I just couldn’t do it,” he continued. “So we would hack away at the wig and we kind of found this in-between state. Between this kind of Labyrinthian monster and something that felt rooted somehow on this planet. We got there in the end; it was a journey.”

The final season of Stranger Things is expected to hit our screens next year, and the creators previously teased that the final 20 minutes of the show have been “ locked in ” for quite a while.

Speaking to SFX magazine back in 2022, Matt Duffer explained : “We know what the ending is. It's conceivable that it changes, but I think it's unlikely because it's one of those endings that just feels, and has always felt, right. It also feels sort of inevitable."

Meanwhile, co-creator Ross Duffer revealed that his and Matt’s pitch for Season 5 left multiple Netflix execs in tears.
