Drone shows becoming popular alternative to firework displays

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Although fireworks are a staple on the Fourth of July, they can be troublesome for some people.

Veterans suffering from PTSD and pets are examples of people who may find that the noise emitted by fireworks displays can be distracting or frightening.

These factors led to some areas seeking alternatives, such as drone shows. These have been growing in popularity across the United States over the last few years.

Matthew Sanker is the lead producer of Firefly Drone Shows, who spoke with News 8 about some of the benefits of drone shows, such as no flammable pollutants and safety.

“In forest fire-prone areas, we’re definitely seeing a lot of folks gear towards that or have that as an alternative if fireworks are deemed unsafe for the time of year that they’re trying to have an event.”
