HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT)- As thousands travel for the holiday weekend, Indiana State Police say that they are increasing the number of patrols and keeping an eye on the roadways.

Indiana loses 3.5% of farmland; gains 1.7%

According to ISP, this weekend is set to be one of the busiest traffic weekends of the year. State Police Sergeant, Matt Ames says that at this time last year, Indiana had 14 fatalities and more that 2,400 accidents.

Sgt. Ames says that as traffic picks up it is important to be fully aware of your surroundings and have a co-driver who is also fully awake and responsive. He adds that if individuals plan to consume alcohol that they should have a designated driver assigned before reaching their destination.
