RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — North Carolina State Highway Patrol has identified the man who was killed in a crash at Brier Creek on the Fourth of July in Randolph County.

At around 1:22 p.m. on Thursday, troopers say they came to the area of Little Uwharrie Road near Kennedy Farm Road in Randolph County.

Investigators say that Eddie Wayne Fouts, 56, of Thomasville, was driving west on Little Uwharrie Road in a 1999 Ford Explorer when he went off the road to the right down an embankment and overturned, crashing into Brier Creek.

A passing driver called law enforcement after spotting the vehicle in the creek.

Fouts was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say that they are still investigating what caused Fouts to drive off of the road.
