Excessive Heat Warning issued for Hampton Roads Friday

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY/WRIC) — Much of the Hampton Roads region is under a Heat Advisory Friday. Here’s what you need to know.

The warning issued by the National Weather Service will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 5.

High heat and high humidity on Friday led to the heat alert.

Heat index values in the afternoon will be between 105 and 110 in the above areas indicated in pink.

With this in mind, heat safety is critical. Keep the tips below in mind throughout the day.

• Never leave pets/children inside a parked vehicle
• Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated
• Reduce strenuous activities
• Find shade or stay in an air conditioned space
• Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing

In addition, make sure to check on your neighbors and loved ones while the warning is in effect to ensure they’re safe.
