A family member relayed the details to Fox News Digital that a large tree branch fell on top of the stand-up comic and several other festival-goers.

“He was fit, healthy, happy and had everything going for him. He was charismatic, funny, passionate and so very loved by [his partner] Hayley, his family and his friends all over the world,” the family member told the outlet.

According to French media, Tony was the only casualty in the accident, which local police are investigating.

Fans and friends of the funnyman shared their heartbreak about his death on social media .

“That’s really sad news about Tony Knight. It’s always tough to hear about such accidents. It’s important to remember the joy and laughter he brought to so many people wit his comedy” one Facebook user wrote.

“Wow, you just don’t know when or how you’ll spend your last day on earth. Kind of scary to think about. A freak accident. I’m so sorry for the family’s loss,” a second remarked.

“Rest in peace my love. My condolences to your family and friends. Very sad to lose you sir,” a third said.

“Wow that’s so sad, especially those that help animals, prayers to all his loved ones,” a fourth commented.

“Very disheartening news. RIP Tony,” a fifth added.

“God bless you and your family may you Rip…” chimed in a sixth.

Tony’s longtime partner, Hayley Wright’s sister, organized a GoFundMe in honor of the entertainer to help with medical bills and funeral costs.

As of July 5, the fundraiser had raised over $8,000 of its $20,000 goal.

Before his death, Tony was preparing to head out on a comedy tour in the UK in the coming months.

Tony was also known for his passion for dogs and, according to his website, called himself a “dog listener.”

Hayley’s sister mentioned the side gig on GoFundMe, saying Tony “helped people all over the world” through various mediums on how to interact with their furry friends.

She also noted that he was about to host esteemed dog classes throughout Europe before his life was suddenly cut short.

The Washington DC native’s recent show, Mad Dogs and an Englishman sold out at numerous venues across Australia and overseas.

According to his IMDB page , Tony was also an actor with credits in The Legend of Awesomest Maximus (2011), The Saxon Chronicles (2006), and Unicorn City (2012).

The Englishman had an Australian residency but lived with Hayley, his partner of over 15 years, on her family farm in Beaufort for the last four years.

Hayley reportedly plans to spread Tony’s ashes in France.
