Chinese Drama The Princess Royal Episode 21 Recap & Spoilers

The ongoing Chinese drama, The Princess Royal , featuring Zhao Jinmai and Zhang Linghe , released episode 21 on July 5, 2024. As seen in the previous instalments , the series follows the story of Li Rong (Zhao Jinmai) and Pei Wen Xuan (Zhang Linghe) as a miracle brings them back to life after conspirators murder them. The preview of episode 21 shows Li Rong acknowledging Wen Xuan’s feelings.

In this episode, Shangguan Ya advises Li Rong to make up her mind. She wants her to decide early whether she wants to divorce the Prince Consort. It is evident that Li Rong doesn’t want to face Wen Xuan after what happened at the flower gorge. Shangguan Ya knows that she cares about him but she is being indecisive and is not ready to open her heart.

The princess does not like how Shangguan Ya or Wen Xuan has been trying to get her to arrive to a conclusion. She reveals that she does not want anyone by her side, as long as she has wealth and power. She acknowledge that she evaded his feelings in the past, while hoping for him to stay. Li Rong decides that she will quit being selfish and clearly tell Wen Xuan that she can not give him what he truly wants for his own good.

The Princess Royal episode 21 spoilers

Li Rong visits Wen Xuan to check up on him. On her way, her heart aches as she keeps recalling how he cares about Zhenzhen. After she greets him, he asks for her permission so that he can move to another room. He doesn’t want to disturb her.

Li Rong, on the other hand apologizes to him for being evasive and letting him down. But to her surprise, Wen Xuan stops her mid-sentence. He assures her that it is not wrong of her to fall for someone else.

Did Zhao Jinmai confess to Zhang Linghe?

As Wen Xuan turns to leave, Li Rong urges him to wait for her for a little longer. She reveals that she finds romantic relationships abhorrent and can not fully trust him or herself because of what happened in the past. But she assures him that she can feel his kindness towards her.

Her sincerity melts Wenxuan’s heart. He asks her to take as much time as she needs and he will wait for her just like he has for a long time. After they reach their room, he plants a kiss on Li Rong’s cheek before leaving.

Meanwhile, Su Rongqing meets up with the Consort Rou and offers to make Prince Su the Emperor. But Rou knows that it is wishful thinking as the eldest son rightfully becomes the prince in their family. But she promises to make Rongqing the highest ranking minister if his family can make it happen.

Shangguan Ya is worried that the noble families might team up against the princess. Li Rong orders the former to release Lin Feibei. She knows that her father wouldn’t abandon Consort Rou or Prince Su. Hence, she wants to turn them futile as pawns.

What happens in The Princess Royal episode 21’s ending?

Further into the episode, Wen Xuan is disappointed when the princess does not invite him to share meal with her. However, at night, Li Rong struggles to fall asleep without him. After she sneaks inside his palace, the couple share some intimate moments together.

Lin Feibei fails in his mission to kill Xie Lanqing, the minister of justice. Afterwards, the latter accuses Li Rong of being the conspirator and she is summoned to the royal court. Will she be able to get out of this mess?
